Year-to-Date (YTD)

Year-to-Date (YTD) in Zoho Payroll shows the cumulative salary, deduction, and statutory contribution totals for an employee from the start of the financial year to the current pay period.

Year-to-Date (YTD) in Zoho Payroll refers to the running cumulative total of an employee’s earnings, deductions, and tax contributions from the beginning of the Indian financial year (April 1) to the end of the current pay period. YTD figures appear on payslips and in payroll reports, helping employees track their annual income and employers verify that TDS, PF, and ESI contributions are on track.

YTD on Payslips in Zoho Payroll

Zoho Payroll can display YTD figures on payslips for key metrics: YTD Gross Earnings, YTD Employee PF, YTD TDS Deducted, and YTD Net Salary. These figures help employees understand their total annual income and estimated tax position at any point in the year. YTD data also supports internal audit queries and salary verification letters.

YTD and TDS Computation

Zoho Payroll uses YTD taxable income as the basis for TDS recomputation each month. The system calculates projected annual income by summing YTD actuals plus estimated future months, applies regime-specific slabs and deductions, and spreads remaining tax across remaining months. YTD accuracy is therefore critical for TDS accuracy throughout the year.

YTD Reset at Financial Year Start

YTD counters reset to zero at the start of each Indian financial year (April 1). For employees with mid-year joining, YTD starts from their first pay period. Zoho Payroll maintains historical YTD data for prior years, enabling access to past year payslips with correct YTD figures for Form 16 verification or legal purposes.

Example: An employee’s October payslip in Zoho Payroll shows: Monthly Gross Rs 40,000 | YTD Gross Rs 2,80,000 (7 months), Monthly TDS Rs 3,000 | YTD TDS Rs 21,000, Monthly EPF Rs 1,800 | YTD EPF Rs 12,600. These figures confirm the employee is on track for the projected annual TDS.
