A Lookup Field in Zoho CRM creates a relationship between two modules by allowing one record to reference another. When you add a Lookup Field, you can search for and link a record from the target module directly from within the source record, establishing a navigable connection between the two.

One-to-Many Relationships

A Lookup Field creates a many-to-one relationship: many records in the child module can look up to one record in the parent module. For example, adding a “Project” Lookup Field on the Deals module allows each Deal to be associated with a Project record – and from the Project record, a Related List shows all linked Deals.

Lookup vs Multi-Lookup

A standard Lookup Field allows one linked record. A Multi-Lookup Field allows multiple records from the target module to be linked to a single source record. For example, a Multi-Lookup on the Contact module could link multiple Accounts to one Contact (useful for contacts who work across multiple companies).

Industry Example

IT Consulting: An IT consulting firm adds a “Technology Stack” Lookup Field on the Accounts module that links to a custom “Technology” module containing records for each software product. Each Account can be linked to the specific technologies the client uses. Reps can filter the Account list by technology to find all clients using a specific platform, enabling targeted upsell outreach.
