Email Open Tracking in Zoho CRM records when a recipient opens an email sent from Zoho CRM. When tracking is enabled, a tiny invisible pixel is embedded in the email. When the recipient’s email client loads the email, the pixel fires a request to Zoho’s servers, logging the open event against the CRM record.

How Email Open Tracking Works

Open tracking works by embedding a 1×1 transparent image (tracking pixel) in the email body. When the email is opened in an HTML-rendering email client, the pixel is loaded from Zoho’s servers, recording the timestamp and email client. Email clients that block images (some corporate mail servers) will not trigger the pixel, so open tracking is an approximation rather than an exact count.

Tracked opens appear on the email record’s timeline in Zoho CRM and can trigger Signal Notifications to alert the rep in real time.

Industry Example

Real Estate: A property developer sends a “Project Launch” email to 200 prospects via Zoho CRM with open tracking enabled. Within 24 hours, Email Insights shows 68 opens. The rep is alerted in real time via Signal Notifications when high-priority prospects open the email and calls them within the hour. 12 site visits are booked that day, all from prospects who opened within the first 4 hours of the email going out.
