An Activity in Zoho CRM is an action taken in relation to a CRM record, encompassing Tasks, Calls, and Meetings or Events. Activities are the primary way sales and support teams log their interactions with leads, contacts, and accounts, building a complete history of every touchpoint in the customer relationship.

Types of Activities

Zoho CRM has three activity types. A Task is a to-do item with a due date and priority, such as “Send follow-up email” or “Prepare demo”. A Call Log records a phone call with a duration, outcome, and notes. A Meeting or Event is a scheduled meeting with a start and end time that can be synced with Zoho Calendar and Google Calendar.

All three activity types are linked to the specific Lead, Contact, Deal, or Account they relate to and appear in the associated record’s timeline.

Activities and Workflow Automation

Activities can trigger Workflow Rules. For example, when a Call Log is created with the outcome “Not Reached”, a workflow can automatically update the Lead Status to “Attempted to Contact” and create a follow-up task for the next day. This reduces manual data entry and keeps records up to date automatically.

Pharmaceutical Sales: A pharmaceutical sales team logs all doctor visits as Activities in Zoho CRM. Each rep logs a Call/Visit against the doctor’s Contact record after every detailing visit. The manager reviews a report of Activities by rep per week to ensure minimum visit frequency targets are met. Accounts with no activity in 30 days are flagged automatically via a Workflow Rule and assigned a revisit task.
