Update Record Action

A Zoho Flow action that modifies specific fields on an existing record in a connected application, keeping data synchronised across systems.

What Is Update Record Action in Zoho Flow?

The Update Record Action in Zoho Flow modifies one or more fields on an existing record in a connected application. Unlike Create Record (which makes a new entry), Update Record finds an existing record by a key field (ID, email address) and changes specified field values without affecting other fields.

Finding the Record to Update

The action requires a unique identifier to locate the record — typically an ID from a previous flow step (e.g., the CRM contact ID returned from a search action) or a matching key like email address. Getting this lookup right is critical; updating the wrong record causes data integrity issues.

Common Update Scenarios

Update a CRM deal stage when a Zoho Sign document is signed. Update an Inventory item’s reorder point when a purchase pattern changes. Update a Desk ticket status when a payment is processed in Books. These cross-app updates keep all systems reflecting the current business reality without manual data entry.
