Timesheet

A Timesheet in Zoho People is a record of the hours an employee spent working on specific projects, tasks, or clients during a period. Timesheets enable accurate project cost tracking, client billing, and compliance with contractual hour requirements.

What is a Timesheet in Zoho People?

A Timesheet records how an employee allocates their working hours across projects, jobs, or tasks. Unlike attendance (which records when the employee was at work), a timesheet records what they worked on. This distinction matters for project-based organisations, consulting firms, and companies that bill clients by the hour.

Timesheet components

  • Project or Job: The work item the hours are attributed to.
  • Date: The date the work was performed.
  • Hours logged: The number of hours worked on that project on that date.
  • Billable flag: Whether the hours are billable to a client or internal.
  • Notes: Description of the work done.

Timesheet approval

Timesheets are typically submitted weekly or monthly and go through an approval workflow — the project manager or reporting manager reviews and approves the hours before they are used for billing or payroll. Zoho People supports configuring the approval workflow per project or job type.
