A Shipment in Zoho Inventory is the physical dispatch of goods to a customer against a sales order. It records what was shipped, when, in what quantities, via which carrier, and with which tracking number — updating stock levels and triggering the invoice.
A Shipment records the physical movement of goods from your warehouse to the customer. When you ship items against a sales order, Zoho Inventory creates a Shipment record, deducts the shipped quantities from stock, records the carrier and tracking number, and either automatically generates an invoice or marks the order as ready to invoice.
If a sales order cannot be fulfilled in a single dispatch — because some items are on backorder — you can create multiple shipments against the same sales order. Each shipment records its own quantities, carrier, and tracking number. The sales order status moves from Confirmed to Partially Shipped until all line items have been shipped.
Zoho Inventory integrates with major shipping carriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL, ShipStation, Aftership) allowing you to generate shipping labels, get rate quotes, and push tracking numbers back to the customer automatically from within the platform.
