Service Territory Member

A Service Territory Member in Zoho FSM is a field agent formally assigned to a specific territory, making them eligible to be scheduled for Work Orders in that geographic area.

What Is a Service Territory Member in Zoho FSM?

A Service Territory Member is the association between a Field Agent and a Service Territory. When a field agent is added as a member of a territory, they become eligible for Work Orders that fall within that territory’s geographic boundaries. Without this membership, the agent will not appear in the scheduling candidates list for jobs in that territory, regardless of their skills.

Primary vs Secondary Territory Membership

Some organisations distinguish between primary territory (the agent’s main operational area where they are always available) and secondary territory (areas they cover as overflow or backup). In Zoho FSM, membership can be configured with this distinction, and scheduling rules can prefer primary members while falling back to secondary members when primary capacity is exhausted.

Managing Territory Membership Changes

When field agents transfer to a new area or the territory structure changes, administrators update territory memberships in the FSM settings. Future Work Orders will then route to agents in the updated territory structure. Historical Work Orders and appointments retain their original agent assignments and are not affected by membership changes made after scheduling.

What happens in Zoho FSM if no Service Territory Members are available for a Work Order?

If no members of the matching territory are available within the required timeframe, the Dispatcher can manually override the territory restriction and assign any qualified agent, or the parent territory escalation rule can activate. The job can also be held in an unscheduled queue until a suitable member becomes available.

Is Service Territory Membership the same as being assigned to a Work Order in Zoho FSM?

No. Territory Membership is a standing configuration that defines which jobs an agent is eligible for. Assignment to a specific Work Order or Service Appointment is a separate action made by the dispatcher or auto-scheduling system. Membership controls eligibility; assignment controls the actual schedule.
