A Probation Period in Zoho People is a defined initial period of employment during which an employee's performance and suitability are assessed before their employment is confirmed. Zoho People tracks probation end dates and can trigger confirmation workflows automatically.
The Probation Period is the initial phase of employment — typically 3 to 6 months — during which both the employer and employee assess whether the role is a good fit. During probation, different notice periods, leave entitlements, or benefits may apply compared to confirmed employees.
Zoho People records the probation start date, probation duration, and expected end date. As the end date approaches, HR administrators or the reporting manager can be automatically notified to initiate the confirmation process.
Zoho People can be configured to trigger an approval workflow when a probation period ends: the reporting manager reviews performance and either confirms the employee, extends the probation period, or initiates a separation. The outcome is recorded on the employee record.
Many organisations restrict certain leave types during probation — for example, not allowing annual leave to be taken or accrued during the first 3 months. Zoho People’s leave policy configuration lets you set these restrictions by employee type or probation status.
