Permission (Creator)

A Permission in Zoho Creator is a granular access setting that controls whether a user or role can create, read, edit, or delete records in a specific form or report.

What Is a Permission in Zoho Creator?

Permissions in Zoho Creator define what operations a user or role can perform on specific application components. For each form, a permission can be set to allow adding new records, editing existing records, deleting records, or just viewing data. For reports, permissions control visibility and whether users can export data. Permissions are configured per role and can also be set at the component level for individual users.

CRUD Permission Model

Creator uses a create, read, update, delete model for form-level permissions. A customer-facing role might have create and read permissions only, allowing them to submit new records and view their own submissions but not modify or delete anything. An admin role would have full CRUD access. Combinations are configured independently for each form and report in the application.

Field-Level Permissions

In addition to form-level permissions, Creator supports field-level visibility rules. Specific fields can be hidden from certain roles or marked as read-only for some users while remaining editable for others. This is useful when a form collects internal processing fields that should not be visible to the external portal user who submitted the record.
