Performance Appraisal

A Performance Appraisal in Zoho People is a structured evaluation process that assesses an employee's work performance against defined goals, competencies, and KRAs over a defined period. The outcome informs compensation decisions, promotions, and development plans.

What is a Performance Appraisal in Zoho People?

A Performance Appraisal is the formal review of an employee’s performance over a defined period — typically quarterly, half-yearly, or annually. It involves setting goals at the start of the period, tracking progress throughout, and conducting a structured review at the end where the employee and manager assess achievement against those goals.

In Zoho People, the entire appraisal process — goal setting, self-appraisal, manager review, 360-degree feedback, and final rating — is managed digitally within a configurable workflow, replacing paper forms and email chains.

Appraisal cycle

An Appraisal Cycle defines the period covered by the review and the timeline of each step: when goal setting opens, when self-appraisals are due, when manager reviews must be completed, and when final ratings are submitted. Multiple cycles can run simultaneously for different employee groups.

Appraisal outcomes

The appraisal outcome — the final rating or score — is used to inform salary increments, performance bonuses, promotions, and individual development plans. Zoho People stores the appraisal history on each employee record for longitudinal performance tracking.
