Payment Field (Forms)

A Payment Field in Zoho Forms connects a form to a payment gateway, letting respondents complete a financial transaction at the point of submission.

Technical Term

A Payment Field turns a Zoho Form into a lightweight checkout page without a separate e-commerce platform. The critical distinction: the payment field handles the gateway connection, but the form owner is responsible for configuring the correct currency, tax, and refund policy independently.

How Payment Field Works in Zoho Forms

The Payment Field is a dedicated field type in Zoho Forms that integrates with supported payment gateways, such as PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.Net, and Razorpay. When added to a form, it presents a payment summary and a secure payment UI to the respondent at submission time. The amount can be fixed, set by a dropdown or radio button choice on the form, or calculated dynamically from other fields. On successful payment, the form records both the response and the transaction reference.

When to Use Payment Field

Use the Payment Field for event registrations with a fee, product orders with a limited SKU count, donation collection, or workshop bookings where payment confirmation is needed before a spot is reserved. It is not a replacement for a full e-commerce catalogue with inventory management. For forms with complex pricing logic, combine the Payment Field with calculated fields to derive the total before the respondent reaches the payment step.

Key Considerations for Payment Field

Payment fields require a paid Zoho Forms plan; they are not available on the free tier. Each gateway has its own setup prerequisites: Razorpay and PayU, popular in India, require a verified merchant account. Only one payment field is allowed per form. Failed payments do not record a form submission unless you configure partial submission settings explicitly. Always test the full payment cycle in sandbox mode before publishing to respondents.

India Example: A Bengaluru yoga studio collects monthly membership renewals through a Zoho Form with a Dropdown field for plan type (monthly or quarterly) and a Payment Field connected to Razorpay. Members select their plan, pay in-form, and receive an automated email receipt, removing the need for a separate billing tool.
Which payment gateways does Zoho Forms support in India?

Zoho Forms supports Razorpay and PayU for Indian merchants, in addition to international gateways such as PayPal and Stripe. Razorpay is the most commonly used option for INR transactions in India, covering UPI, net banking, cards, and wallets. You must have an active merchant account with the chosen gateway before connecting it in Zoho Forms.

What happens to the form response if a payment fails?

By default, Zoho Forms does not record a submission if the payment step fails or is abandoned. You can enable partial submission capture in the form settings, which saves the form data even when payment does not complete. The transaction status is logged separately, allowing you to follow up with respondents who did not finish payment.
