Overtime in Zoho People refers to hours worked beyond an employee's standard shift duration. Zoho People tracks overtime hours from attendance data, and the overtime policy defines how those hours are compensated — as additional pay, compensatory off, or both.
Overtime hours are the hours an employee works beyond their assigned shift’s standard working hours. For example, if the Day Shift requires 8 hours and an employee works 10 hours, they have 2 hours of overtime. Zoho People calculates overtime from the clock-in and clock-out data against the assigned shift.
An Overtime Policy defines the rules: how many hours of overtime are allowed per day or week, the multiplier applied to the overtime rate (1.5x, 2x), and whether overtime can be converted to Compensatory Off instead of additional pay. Policies can differ by employee type — executives may have no overtime entitlement, while hourly workers always earn overtime pay.
When Zoho People is integrated with Zoho Payroll, approved overtime hours are passed to payroll so the additional compensation is included in the next pay run automatically, without manual data entry.
