Offline Access

The ability to view and edit files stored in Zoho WorkDrive without an internet connection, using the desktop or mobile sync app.

What Is Offline Access in Zoho WorkDrive?

Offline Access in Zoho WorkDrive allows users to work with files that have been synced to their local device even when there is no internet connection. Changes made offline are stored locally and automatically uploaded to WorkDrive when the connection is restored, ensuring no work is lost during periods of connectivity loss.

How Offline Access Works

Files in synced folders (configured through the desktop or mobile app) are stored locally on the device. When internet access is unavailable, users can open, read, and edit these local copies using their preferred applications. The WorkDrive desktop app monitors the connection status and queues any changes made offline for upload as soon as connectivity returns.

Limitations of Offline Access

Offline access in WorkDrive is limited to files that have been synced to the device before the connection was lost. Files stored only in WorkDrive (not yet synced locally) are not accessible offline. Real-time co-editing and comment notifications also require an active connection. For teams that frequently work in areas with poor connectivity, pre-syncing key folders before travel is recommended.

Can I create new files offline and have them sync when I reconnect?

Yes. Files created or edited in the local WorkDrive sync folder while offline are treated as pending changes and are uploaded automatically when the internet connection is restored. The new files appear in the corresponding WorkDrive folder as if they had been uploaded directly, and other team members can access them once the sync completes.

How does WorkDrive handle conflicts if I edited a file offline that someone else also edited online?

When you reconnect, Zoho WorkDrive detects the conflict and creates a conflict copy of the file alongside the current version. You will see both versions in the folder and can manually review and merge the differences before deleting the redundant copy. This prevents any offline edits from being silently overwritten.
