Leave Balance

Leave Balance in Zoho People is the current count of available leave days an employee has for each Leave Type, reflecting days granted or accrued minus days taken. It is visible to the employee, their manager, and HR in real time.

What is Leave Balance in Zoho People?

Leave Balance shows how many days of each leave type an employee currently has available to take. It is calculated as: days granted or accrued to date, minus days already taken or approved for future dates.

Both the employee (through ESS) and their manager and HR team can view the current leave balance at any time, making leave planning straightforward and eliminating disputes about entitlement.

Leave Balance components

  • Opening Balance: Days carried forward from the previous year.
  • Granted Balance: Days added at the start of the year or through accrual.
  • Days Taken: Approved past leave deducted from the balance.
  • Pending Days: Approved future leave already deducted from the available balance.
  • Available Balance: What remains and can still be applied for.

Leave Balance in payroll

At the end of a leave year or upon employee exit, the leave balance for encashable leave types is fed to payroll to calculate the leave encashment payout.
