KPI (HR)

A KPI in Zoho People's performance module is a specific, measurable metric used to evaluate employee performance within a Key Result Area — such as sales revenue against target, tickets resolved per day, or defect rate. KPIs quantify the performance standard expected for each role.

What is a KPI in Zoho People?

A KPI (Key Performance Indicator) is the measurable yardstick for performance within a KRA. While the KRA defines the responsibility area (e.g., Customer Satisfaction), the KPI defines exactly how it will be measured (e.g., NPS Score above 50, or first-call resolution rate above 80%).

In Zoho People’s performance module, KPIs are defined at the role or employee level during goal setting. At the end of the appraisal cycle, actual values are compared against the target KPI values to calculate the performance score for each area.

KPI types

  • Quantitative KPIs: Numeric targets — revenue, units sold, tickets closed, errors per 1,000.
  • Qualitative KPIs: Assessed on a rating scale — communication effectiveness, leadership presence, client relationship quality.
  • Activity-based KPIs: Process compliance measures — timesheets submitted on time, appraisal forms completed by deadline.
