Zoho Inventory

Item Variant

A specific version of an item defined by attribute combinations such as size, colour, or material, each with its own SKU and stock level.

What Is an Item Variant?

In Zoho Inventory, an item variant is a unique sellable version of a parent item group, distinguished by one or more attribute values. For example, a T-shirt item group may have variants for Small/Blue, Small/Red, Large/Blue, and Large/Red, each tracked independently.

How Variants Work

Variants inherit the base item’s description and tax settings but maintain separate SKUs, barcodes, purchase prices, selling prices, and stock quantities. You can set reorder points and preferred vendors at the variant level.

When to Use Item Variants

Use variants when a product comes in multiple configurations that customers can choose between but share the same product identity. This keeps your catalogue clean while maintaining granular inventory control.
