Item (Inventory)

An Item in Zoho Inventory is any product or service that a business buys, sells, or tracks. Items are the foundation of all inventory transactions — purchase orders, sales orders, invoices, and stock adjustments all reference items.

What is an Item in Zoho Inventory?

An Item is the master record for any product or service your business deals in. Every transaction in Zoho Inventory — buying from a supplier, selling to a customer, adjusting stock — references an item. The item record stores the name, description, SKU, unit of measure, pricing, tax rates, and current stock levels.

Item types

  • Inventory Item: A physical product with stock tracked in the system. Stock levels go up with purchases and receipts; down with sales and shipments.
  • Non-Inventory Item: A product that is sold but not tracked in stock — for example, a service or a one-time consumable.
  • Service Item: A service offered to customers, with no physical stock. Used on invoices and sales orders.
  • Bundle: A group of items sold together as a single unit at a combined price.

Item master data

Each item has a unique SKU, a sales price, a purchase price, preferred supplier, tax rates, and optionally a reorder point and preferred warehouse. This master data is used across all modules that reference the item.
