In-Person Signing

A Zoho Sign workflow where the document sender facilitates the signing process on their own device, capturing a signatory's signature face-to-face without sending an email invitation.

What Is In-Person Signing in Zoho Sign?

In-person signing in Zoho Sign allows you to collect a signature from someone physically present, using your own device (tablet, laptop, or phone). Instead of sending an email to the signatory, you open the document on your device, hand it to the signer, and they sign directly on your screen. The signature is captured and the document is completed immediately.

Use Cases

In-person signing is ideal for: point-of-sale agreements (signing a service contract at a customer’s premises), event registrations (capturing consent at a conference or trade show), medical consents (patient signs at the clinic on the doctor’s tablet), and any situation where the other party does not have a device or email access.

Authentication

In-person signing has lighter authentication (no email verification) because the signer’s physical presence is considered identity confirmation. If stronger evidence is needed, use Aadhaar eSign or require the signer to type their name and date before drawing their signature.

How does In-Person Signing work in Zoho Sign?

In-Person Signing allows a host to present a document on their device (tablet or laptop) to a signer who is physically present. The signer draws or applies their signature directly on the host’s screen without needing their own email account or device. The host initiates the session from the Zoho Sign interface and hands the device to the signer at the right moment.

When is In-Person Signing more practical than remote signing in Zoho Sign?

In-Person Signing is practical at point-of-sale (retail stores, showrooms, or kiosks), during face-to-face client meetings where signing on the spot is expected, for signers who are not comfortable with email-based processes, and in regulated situations (such as banking) where physical presence is part of the verification procedure even when the document itself is electronic.
