Geo-fencing in Zoho People is an attendance security feature that restricts employee clock-in to a defined geographic area — such as within 500 metres of the office building — using the GPS location of the employee's mobile device.
Geo-fencing prevents proxy attendance and buddy punching (one employee clocking in for another) by verifying the employee’s physical location at the time of clock-in. You define a virtual perimeter around the workplace — a radius around a GPS coordinate — and employees can only successfully clock in from their mobile app if they are physically within that boundary.
In Zoho People’s attendance settings, you enter the office address (which resolves to GPS coordinates) and set the allowed radius in metres. You can configure multiple geo-fence zones for organisations with multiple offices or site locations.
For sales reps, field service technicians, or delivery staff who work at client sites, you can set up geo-fences around client locations or allow clock-in from any location while still capturing the GPS coordinates at clock-in time. This creates an audit trail of where the employee was when they started work.
