Flat Fee Billing

A pricing model in Zoho Billing where customers pay a fixed amount for a subscription regardless of usage volume or number of users.

What Is Flat Fee Billing?

Flat fee billing is the simplest pricing model in Zoho Billing: the customer pays a fixed price for the subscription each billing cycle, regardless of how much they use the service or how many users access it. The price is the same whether the customer uses the product once or a hundred times. This model is popular for SaaS products with low marginal cost per use and where simplicity in pricing is a competitive advantage.

How Flat Fee Billing Works in Zoho Billing

When you create a plan in Zoho Billing with a flat fee structure, you set a single price and a billing interval. Every subscriber on that plan is charged the same amount at each renewal, with no variable components. Zoho Billing generates the invoice automatically, processes the payment, and renews the subscription without any calculation required.

Flat Fee vs. Usage-Based Billing

Flat fee billing offers customers predictability: they know exactly what they will pay each month. This reduces the risk of bill shock and makes budgeting easier for the customer. The trade-off is that high-volume users pay the same as low-volume users, which may feel unfair to the latter. Usage-based billing addresses this but adds pricing complexity. Many businesses use a flat fee with a fair-use cap as a middle ground.

Can I offer a flat fee plan alongside usage-based plans in Zoho Billing?

Yes. Zoho Billing allows you to create multiple plans for the same product with different pricing models. You can offer a flat fee plan for customers who prefer predictable pricing and a usage-based plan for those who want to pay only for what they use. Customers choose or are assigned the appropriate plan at subscription time.

Does Zoho Billing support flat fee billing for multi-seat licences?

Yes. A flat fee plan in Zoho Billing can be configured to cover a set number of seats or users. For example, a plan might cost INR 10,000 per month for up to 10 users. If the customer needs more users, they can add user-seat add-ons or upgrade to a higher plan. The base flat fee does not change regardless of how many of the included seats are actively used.
