Zoho WorkDrive

File

Any document, image, spreadsheet, presentation, or other content uploaded to or created within Zoho WorkDrive.

What Is a File in Zoho WorkDrive?

In Zoho WorkDrive, a file is any piece of content stored in the system, whether it was uploaded from a device or created directly in WorkDrive using the built-in tools (Writer, Sheet, Show). Files can be of any type, including PDFs, images, Word documents, ZIP archives, and native WorkDrive formats. Each file has its own version history, activity log, sharing settings, and metadata.

Supported File Types

Zoho WorkDrive stores all file types without restriction. Documents in Microsoft Office formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) and Google Workspace formats can be previewed and edited within WorkDrive using the built-in Zoho document editors. Other file types such as images, PDFs, and audio/video files can be previewed or downloaded. Files up to a specified size per upload are supported depending on the WorkDrive plan.

File Management in WorkDrive

Each file in WorkDrive can be moved, copied, renamed, versioned, commented on, and shared. Metadata such as tags and descriptions can be added to improve discoverability. Files deleted from a folder move to the Trash and are retained for a configurable period before permanent deletion, giving users a recovery window for accidental deletions.

Can I preview a file without downloading it in Zoho WorkDrive?

Yes. Zoho WorkDrive has a built-in file previewer that supports common document, image, and PDF formats. Users can review the content of a file directly in the browser without downloading it, which is particularly useful for viewing files on shared or managed devices where downloads may be restricted.

Is there a maximum file size for uploads in Zoho WorkDrive?

Zoho WorkDrive’s maximum file upload size varies by plan. Business plans typically support single file uploads of up to 1 GB or more. For very large files, the desktop sync client may be a more reliable upload method than the browser-based uploader, as it handles large transfers more robustly.
