A File Request in Zoho WorkDrive is an invite link you share with external parties to collect files from them. The recipient can upload files to a designated WorkDrive folder through the link without needing a WorkDrive account and without seeing or accessing any of the files already stored in that folder. The uploaded files land directly in your specified location.
File Requests are useful in situations where you need to collect documents from multiple parties without giving them view access to your existing files. Common scenarios include collecting completed forms from clients, gathering project deliverables from freelancers, requesting supporting documents from applicants, or collecting receipts and invoices from vendors for processing.
The submitter of a File Request cannot see what other people have uploaded or what files currently exist in the destination folder. Each upload is handled independently, preserving confidentiality between submitters. Admins can set a name and label for the request page to make it clear to submitters what documents are being requested.
Zoho WorkDrive’s File Request allows you to add instructions for the submitter on the upload page, but file type restrictions are not enforced automatically at the upload stage. Submitters can upload any file type. You would need to review and manage submissions after upload if specific formats are required.
After a successful upload through a File Request link, Zoho WorkDrive displays a confirmation message on screen. You can also customise a thank-you message for the submitter. The folder owner is notified by email when new files arrive through the request, so you know when submissions have come in without manually checking the folder.
