Execution History (Flow)

Execution History in Zoho Flow is a log of every time a flow has run, showing whether each execution succeeded or failed, the data passed at each step

Technical Term

Execution history is where flow problems are diagnosed, not guessed at. Each logged execution shows the exact data that entered each step and the precise point of failure, cutting debug time from hours to minutes when something goes wrong in a production integration.

How Execution History Works in Zoho Flow

Every time a flow is triggered, Zoho Flow logs the execution with a timestamp, success or failure status, and a step-by-step breakdown of the data processed. For each step in the flow, you can see the input payload, the output returned by the connected app, and any error message if the step failed. The history is accessible from the flow’s detail page and can be filtered by date range or status. Failed executions can also be re-run directly from the history view.

When to Use Execution History

Check execution history whenever a flow produces unexpected results, fails to trigger, or when a connected team member reports that expected data did not arrive in a target system. It is also useful for confirming that a newly activated or recently edited flow is running correctly before relying on it for business-critical data. For flows that run many times per day, set up error notifications so you are alerted to failures rather than discovering them through missing data.

Key Considerations for Execution History

Execution history is retained for a limited period depending on your Zoho Flow plan; older records may be purged automatically. If you need a permanent audit trail of integration activity, consider logging key outputs to a separate data store, such as a Google Sheet or a Zoho Creator table, as part of the flow itself. High-volume flows can accumulate thousands of history entries quickly; use the date and status filters to narrow your review to relevant entries rather than scrolling through all records.

India Example: A Bengaluru logistics firm runs a flow that creates a Zoho Books invoice each time a Zoho CRM deal is closed won. When an accounts team member reports missing invoices, the admin opens execution history, filters for failures in the past 48 hours, and finds that three executions failed because the CRM record was missing a required billing address field. The fix takes 10 minutes.
How long is execution history retained in Zoho Flow?

Retention periods vary by plan. Generally, Zoho Flow retains execution history for a set number of days or executions, with higher-tier plans retaining more. Check your current plan details in the Zoho Flow account settings for the exact retention policy. If you need longer-term records, build a logging step into your flow to write key data to a permanent store.

Can I re-run a failed execution directly from the history log?

Yes. Zoho Flow allows you to re-run a specific failed execution from the execution history view. This replays the original trigger data through the flow, which is useful when the failure was caused by a temporary issue in the connected app rather than a configuration error. Confirm the underlying issue is resolved before re-running to avoid repeating the failure.
