Employment Status

Employment Status in Zoho People indicates the current state of an employee's engagement with the organisation — such as Active, On Notice, Resigned, or Terminated. It controls which records are included in active headcount reports and which HR processes are available for that employee.

What is Employment Status in Zoho People?

Employment Status is a flag on the employee record that reflects their current relationship with the organisation. It determines whether they appear in active headcount, whether they can log attendance or apply for leave, and which offboarding workflows are triggered.

Common Employment Status values

  • Active: Currently employed and working.
  • On Leave: On approved extended leave (maternity, sabbatical).
  • On Notice: Resignation accepted, serving out the notice period.
  • Resigned: Notice period served, pending final settlement.
  • Terminated: Employment ended, either voluntarily or involuntarily.
  • Retired: Ended employment due to retirement.

Impact on HR processes

Inactive employees (Resigned, Terminated) are typically excluded from active headcount reports, payroll runs, and leave calculations. Their records are retained for historical reference and statutory compliance but marked as inactive so they do not appear in day-to-day HR workflows.
