A Custom Widget is a self-contained front-end component that a developer builds using standard web technologies — HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — and deploys inside a Zoho Creator application. It is developed and managed through Creator’s Widget Studio and can be placed on any Page as a component alongside native Creator elements. Custom Widgets are used when the built-in Page components cannot meet specific design or interaction requirements.
Creator provides a JavaScript SDK for Custom Widgets that allows the widget to communicate with the Creator application. Through the SDK, the widget can query form records, read the current user’s profile, update field values, and trigger navigation events. This two-way communication makes Custom Widgets more than just visual decorations; they can be functional, data-driven components integrated with the application’s logic.
Once built and published within Widget Studio, a Custom Widget is available to place on any Page in the application. If the same widget is needed across multiple Creator applications, it can be exported and imported. Custom Widgets are well-suited for custom charts, embedded third-party tools such as maps or video players, and branded UI elements that need pixel-perfect control beyond Creator’s native styling options.
