Custom Tab (People)

A Custom Tab in Zoho People is an additional data section added to the employee record to capture information that is not covered by the default fields — such as asset assignments, skills inventory, language proficiency, or background verification status.

What is a Custom Tab in Zoho People?

Zoho People’s default employee record covers the standard HR fields: personal details, employment information, leave, attendance, and documents. A Custom Tab extends the record with organisation-specific information that doesn’t fit these categories.

For example, a technology company might add a Skills Tab with fields for programming languages, certifications, and years of experience. A logistics company might add an Asset Tab to track which vehicles or devices are assigned to each driver.

Configuring a Custom Tab

HR administrators can create Custom Tabs from the configuration section, adding any combination of field types: text, date, dropdown, checkbox, number, or file attachment. Permissions can be set to control who can view or edit each tab — some tabs might be visible only to HR, while others are viewable by the employee and their manager.

Common Custom Tab examples

  • Background verification status and agency reference.
  • IT asset assignments (laptop serial number, access card ID).
  • Visa and work permit details for international employees.
  • Emergency contact and nominee details.
