Custom Module (People)

A Custom Module in Zoho People is an entirely new data section created by HR administrators to track information that falls outside the default modules — such as asset management, visa tracking, or wellness programme participation — without any coding required.

What is a Custom Module in Zoho People?

Zoho People’s default modules cover the standard HR domains: employees, leave, attendance, timesheets, and performance. A Custom Module lets you extend the system with entirely new data objects tailored to your organisation’s specific needs, all through a no-code configuration interface.

For example, a company that issues laptops and phones to employees might create a custom Asset Register module with fields for asset type, serial number, issue date, and return date, linked to each employee record. HR can then track asset assignments and returns directly in Zoho People without a separate spreadsheet.

Difference from Custom Tab

A Custom Tab adds fields to the existing employee record. A Custom Module creates a completely separate data structure with its own list view, record type, fields, and potentially its own approval workflow. Custom Modules are appropriate for data that has a many-to-one relationship with employees (e.g., an employee can have multiple assets) or data that exists independently of individual employee records.
