Bug Severity

A classification in Zoho Projects' bug tracker indicating the impact of a defect on the product, ranging from Critical (system unusable) to Cosmetic (minor visual issue).

What Is Bug Severity in Zoho Projects?

Bug severity in Zoho Projects’ issue tracker classifies a defect by the degree of impact it has on the product. Severity levels typically include Critical (system crash or data loss), Major (significant functionality broken), Minor (functionality works but incorrectly), and Cosmetic (visual or text issues with no functional impact).

Severity vs Priority

Severity is about impact; priority is about fix order. A cosmetic bug on the login page might be low severity but high priority because it is the first thing users see. A major bug in a rarely used feature might be high severity but low priority. Both dimensions are needed for effective bug triage.

Triage Process

At regular bug triage meetings, the team reviews newly logged issues, assigns severity and priority, and allocates them to sprints or to specific team members. Zoho Projects’ bug tracker filters by severity and priority to support this triage process.
