Billable Hours

Billable Hours in Zoho People are the portion of timesheet-logged hours that are designated as chargeable to a client or project, as opposed to internal or non-billable time. They are used to generate client invoices and measure project profitability.

What are Billable Hours in Zoho People?

In Zoho People’s timesheet module, each time log entry can be marked as billable or non-billable. Billable hours are the hours that will be charged to a client — the hours the client has agreed to pay for. Non-billable hours are internal time: admin work, internal meetings, training, or work done beyond the contracted scope without additional charge.

Why tracking billable hours matters

  • Client invoicing: Billable hours are the basis for generating accurate time-and-materials invoices.
  • Profitability analysis: Comparing billable hours to total hours worked on a project shows the utilisation rate — how efficiently time is being converted into revenue.
  • Project cost tracking: Multiplying billable hours by the billing rate gives the earned value on a project.

Integration with invoicing

When Zoho People is integrated with Zoho Books, approved billable hours from timesheets can be automatically converted into invoice line items, eliminating the manual step of transferring time data to the billing system.
