Zoho Inventory

Batch Tracking

A method in Zoho Inventory of tracking groups of items manufactured or received together under a single batch number, often used for expiry management.

What Is Batch Tracking?

Batch tracking in Zoho Inventory assigns a batch number to a group of items received or produced together. All units in the batch share the same manufacture date, expiry date, and supplier details. This is the standard traceability method for food, pharma, and chemical products.

Batch vs Serial Tracking

Serial tracking is one-to-one (each unit has a unique ID); batch tracking is one-to-many (a batch number covers multiple units). Use batch tracking when individual unit identity is less important than knowing which production run an item came from.

Recall Management

If a quality issue arises with a specific batch, Zoho Inventory lets you identify all customers who received items from that batch. This makes product recalls faster and more targeted, reducing both cost and liability.
