What Is a Monitor Column?

A Monitor Column in Zoho Social is a customisable feed that streams social media activity matching a defined criterion. You can create Monitor Columns to track brand mentions, specific hashtags, keyword searches, or activity from specific accounts. Each column appears as a vertical feed in the Monitors section, similar to a TweetDeck or Hootsuite dashboard, giving you a real-time view of relevant social conversations.

Types of Monitor Columns

Common Monitor Column types in Zoho Social include: Mentions — posts that tag your brand’s connected profiles; Hashtag — posts using a specific hashtag; Keyword — posts containing a specific word or phrase; Brand — posts mentioning your brand name without tagging the account directly; and Competitor — activity from a competitor’s account or mentions of a competitor’s brand. You can create multiple columns for different monitoring needs within the same brand.

Acting on Monitor Column Data

From a Monitor Column, you can engage directly with posts: reply to comments, like posts, or share relevant content. For high-value interactions, such as a potential customer asking about your product in a keyword column, responding promptly through the monitor gives you a significant competitive advantage. For posts flagged as potential leads, Zoho Social’s CRM integration allows you to push the contact information to Zoho CRM directly from the monitor view.

Can I receive notifications when new activity appears in a Monitor Column?

Yes. Zoho Social can send email or in-app notifications when new activity appears in designated Monitor Columns, particularly for brand mention columns where timely response is important. Configuring notifications for high-priority columns ensures you are alerted to important social conversations without needing to check the Monitors view constantly throughout the day.

Is there a limit to how many Monitor Columns I can create in Zoho Social?

The number of Monitor Columns you can create per Brand depends on your Zoho Social plan. Standard plans include a set number of columns, while higher-tier plans allow more. For brands with extensive monitoring needs (tracking many competitors, multiple keywords, and multiple hashtags), choosing a plan with a generous column limit ensures you can cover all your monitoring requirements without having to choose between them.
