Product Family

A grouping category in Zoho Billing used to organise related products together, such as bundling all plans under a single product line or market segment.

What Is a Product Family in Zoho Billing?

A Product Family in Zoho Billing is an organisational grouping that clusters related products together. For example, a SaaS company might have a “Core Platform” product family containing their main products and an “Add-ons” family for optional modules. Product families make it easier to navigate a large product catalogue and support grouped reporting across related offerings.

How Product Families Work

When creating a product in Zoho Billing, you can assign it to an existing product family or create a new one. The product family appears as a category label in the product catalogue and in revenue reports. It does not change how billing or subscriptions work but improves organisation and reporting clarity for businesses with multiple product lines.

Product Families and Revenue Reporting

Zoho Billing allows you to filter and group reports by product family, making it easy to see the total MRR, subscriber count, and churn rate for an entire product line rather than looking at individual product metrics in isolation. This is particularly useful during business reviews when you need to present performance by product category rather than by individual SKU.

Is it mandatory to assign a product to a product family in Zoho Billing?

No. Product family assignment is optional in Zoho Billing. If your catalogue has only a few products or a flat structure, you can create products without assigning them to a family. Product families become more valuable as your catalogue grows and you need to group offerings for better navigation and reporting.

Can I move a product from one product family to another?

Yes. Products can be reassigned to different product families in Zoho Billing without affecting existing subscriptions. The change is purely organisational and takes effect immediately in the catalogue view and reporting filters. There is no impact on billing, invoicing, or customer-facing information.
