A comment in Zoho WorkDrive is a text note attached to a file by a team member. Comments appear in the file’s comment panel and can be linked to a specific location within the document (such as a paragraph or cell) or added as general file-level notes. They are the primary tool for asynchronous collaboration and document review in WorkDrive.
Users with at least Commenter permission can add comments to files. Comments can be replied to, creating threaded conversations around a specific point. Once a comment has been addressed, it can be marked as resolved, which removes it from the active comments view while retaining it in the comment history. Mentions in comments (using the @ symbol) send notifications to the tagged user.
Comments are metadata attached to the file and do not change the file’s actual content. They are the appropriate channel for suggesting changes, asking questions, or recording approvals without altering the document. If a reviewer wants to make a direct change to the content, they need Editor permission rather than just Commenter access.
Yes. All users with Viewer access or above on a file can read the existing comments in Zoho WorkDrive. Comments are not private unless the file itself is restricted. This makes comments useful for transparent collaborative review, but be aware that all comments are visible to everyone with file access.
Yes. In Zoho WorkDrive’s Sheet (the built-in spreadsheet tool), comments can be added to individual cells, similar to commenting in Microsoft Excel. The comment appears as a small indicator on the cell, and clicking it opens the comment thread. This is useful for annotating specific data points without cluttering the spreadsheet with explanatory text in adjacent cells.
