A Dropdown Field is a select-type input in Zoho Creator that presents a list of predefined choices. Users pick one option from the list, ensuring that the stored value is always one of the expected values rather than free-text that might vary in spelling or capitalisation. Dropdown Fields are fundamental for status tracking, categorisation, and any field where a controlled vocabulary is important.
Builders define the list of options in the field’s properties panel. Options can be static text values or, in advanced configurations, dynamically populated from another form’s data using a lookup-based dropdown. Options can also be conditionally shown or hidden based on other field values on the same form using field rules.
Because Dropdown Fields enforce a fixed set of values, they are highly effective in report filters, Summary Report groupings, and workflow condition logic. A status Dropdown Field with values like Pending, In Progress, and Completed makes it straightforward to group records by status in a Summary Report or trigger different workflow paths based on which status was selected.
