Sequential signing in Zoho Sign means the document is sent to one signatory at a time, in a predefined order. Signatory 1 receives, reviews, and signs first. Only after they complete does Signatory 2 receive the document. This chain continues until all signatories have signed and the document is complete.
Use sequential signing when earlier signatories have authority over whether the document should proceed to later ones (e.g., a legal approver must sign before a client receives the document), when the signing order has business process meaning, or when later signatories should see any comments or completions from earlier ones.
Sequential signing takes longer but provides process control. Parallel signing is faster because all parties receive the document simultaneously. For time-sensitive deals, parallel signing reduces the cycle from days to hours; for compliance-sensitive documents, sequential signing provides the necessary control and accountability.
If any signer in the sequence declines, the document workflow stops at that point. The subsequent signers in the queue do not receive the document.
