Hard Bounce

A permanent email delivery failure in Zoho Campaigns indicating that an email address is invalid, does not exist, or the domain does not accept email.

What Is a Hard Bounce in Zoho Campaigns?

A hard bounce in Zoho Campaigns indicates a permanent, unrecoverable email delivery failure. Common causes include an email address that does not exist, a domain name that is invalid, or a recipient server that has permanently blocked your domain. Hard bounced addresses should never be emailed again.

Zoho Campaigns’ Automatic Handling

Zoho Campaigns automatically marks hard bounced contacts as Bounced and excludes them from all future campaigns. You do not need to manually remove them. The system maintains a bounce registry to prevent re-sending to known invalid addresses.

Impact on Deliverability

A bounce rate above 2% signals to receiving mail servers that your list is poorly maintained, which damages your sender reputation and reduces inbox placement. Keep your list clean by verifying emails before import, removing inactive subscribers regularly, and never sending to purchased lists.
