Burndown Chart

A chart in Zoho Projects tracking remaining work (in tasks or story points) against time during a sprint or project, showing whether the team is on track to complete work by the deadline.

What Is a Burndown Chart in Zoho Projects?

A burndown chart in Zoho Projects plots remaining work (tasks or story points) on the Y-axis against time on the X-axis. An ideal burndown line runs diagonally from the total work at sprint start to zero at sprint end. The actual burndown line shows how work is actually decreasing.

Reading the Chart

If the actual line is above the ideal line, the team is behind schedule for the sprint. If it is below, they are ahead. A flat line indicates that no work is being completed (or completed work is being offset by new additions to the sprint). A sudden drop might indicate tasks were marked complete but not truly done.

Sprint vs Release Burndown

A sprint burndown tracks a single sprint. A release burndown tracks progress toward an entire release across multiple sprints. Both are available in Zoho Projects and serve different planning horizons for different audiences.
