Available stock in Zoho Inventory is the quantity you can promise to new customers. It equals stock on hand minus the quantity already committed to open, unfulfilled sales orders. This prevents overselling by reflecting only what is genuinely free to allocate.
When a sales order is confirmed, the ordered quantity moves from available to committed. When the shipment is dispatched and the order closed, stock on hand reduces and the committed quantity is released.
Always quote available stock rather than stock on hand to customers. A business with 200 units on hand but 180 committed can only promise 20 units to new buyers. Displaying accurate availability reduces cancellations and customer disputes.
