Bill of Materials (BOM)

A structured list of components and quantities required to assemble or manufacture a composite item in Zoho Inventory.

What Is a Bill of Materials?

A Bill of Materials (BOM) in Zoho Inventory defines the components and their quantities needed to produce one unit of a composite item. When you fulfil a sales order for a composite item, Zoho Inventory automatically deducts the component quantities from stock based on the BOM.

BOM Structure

Each BOM entry specifies the component item (which must exist in your item master), the required quantity per finished unit, and optionally the unit of measurement. A laptop kit BOM might list one laptop, one charger, and one carry bag.

Manufacturing vs Assembly

Zoho Inventory’s BOM is suited for assembly operations rather than complex manufacturing. For multi-stage production with work orders, Zoho Manufacturing (part of Zoho One) provides more depth.
