A People Profile in Zoho People is a permission template that defines field-level access for a group of users — controlling which fields on the employee record are visible, editable, or hidden for that user group. Profiles refine access beyond role-level permissions.
While a Role defines what modules and actions a user can access, a Profile defines which specific fields within those modules they can see or edit. For example, both HR Managers and Payroll Specialists might have access to the Employee module, but the Payroll Specialist Profile shows the salary fields while the HR Manager Profile hides them (or vice versa, depending on your org structure).
Every user in Zoho People is assigned both a Role (defining module and action access) and a Profile (defining field-level access). The combination gives fine-grained control: a user’s role determines what they can do; their profile determines what data they can see while doing it.
