IP Restriction (Attendance)

IP Restriction in Zoho People limits employee clock-in to specific IP addresses — such as the office network — preventing employees from logging attendance from home or other unauthorised locations.

What is IP Restriction in Zoho People?

IP Restriction is an attendance security control that allows clock-in only when the employee’s device is connected to an approved network — identified by its IP address. When configured, an employee trying to clock in from home (a different IP) will receive an error or be blocked from submitting their attendance.

How to configure IP Restriction

In Zoho People’s attendance settings, you add the public IP addresses of your office networks to a whitelist. Employees can only successfully clock in when their device’s IP matches one of the whitelisted addresses.

IP Restriction vs Geo-fencing

IP Restriction works on network identity: if you’re on the office WiFi, you can clock in. Geo-fencing works on physical location: if your GPS is within the office boundary, you can clock in. IP Restriction is simpler to set up but can be bypassed with a VPN. Geo-fencing is harder to spoof but requires the mobile app and GPS access. Many organisations use both together for stronger attendance integrity.
