Leave Accrual

Leave Accrual in Zoho People is the automatic, periodic addition of leave days to an employee's leave balance over time — for example, earning 1.25 days of annual leave per month — rather than granting the full annual entitlement on day one.

What is Leave Accrual in Zoho People?

Leave Accrual is a leave credit mechanism where days are added to an employee’s balance incrementally over time, rather than all at once at the start of the year. The most common model is monthly accrual: an employee entitled to 15 days of earned leave per year accrues 1.25 days at the end of each month.

This prevents a new joiner from taking all 15 days of leave in their first month. It also means that if an employee resigns mid-year, their leave balance reflects only the proportion of the year they worked.

Accrual rules

Zoho People lets you configure:

  • Accrual frequency: monthly, quarterly, or on a specific date.
  • Accrual rate: how many days are added per period.
  • Maximum accrual cap: the maximum balance an employee can accumulate before accrual stops.
  • Accrual on joining date vs first day of the month following joining.
