Under the GST e-way bill rules, any movement of goods valued above INR 50,000 (whether by road, rail, air, or ship) requires an e-way bill. The threshold varies slightly by state for intra-state movements. The e-way bill must be generated before the goods leave the supplier’s premises. Zoho Books integrates with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) e-way bill portal to generate the bill directly from within the invoice.
Open the invoice (or delivery challan) for which you want to generate an e-way bill. Click Generate e-Way Bill. Enter the transporter GSTIN or transporter ID, the vehicle number, the mode of transport (road, rail, air, ship), and the transportation distance in kilometres. Click Generate. Zoho Books submits the data to the e-way bill portal and retrieves the 12-digit e-way bill number and the validity expiry date and time. Both are stored against the invoice in Zoho Books.
e-Way bills are valid for one day per 100 km of distance for road transport (two days per 100 km for over-dimensional cargo). If the shipment is delayed and the validity expires, the transporter must extend the e-way bill before the expiry. Zoho Books allows you to view e-way bill expiry dates from the invoice list. Extensions must be done on the e-way bill portal directly or through Zoho Books if the integration supports it at the time of extension.
An e-Way Bill in Zoho Books is the electronic transport document required for moving goods worth more than INR 50,000. Zoho Books generates e-way bills directly from invoices by submitting to the NIC portal and retrieving the e-way bill number.
Open the invoice and click Generate e-Way Bill. Enter transporter details, vehicle number, and transport mode. Zoho Books submits to the e-way bill portal and retrieves the e-way bill number linked to the invoice.
