E-Way Bill

A mandatory electronic document required for the movement of goods worth more than Rs 50,000 within or between Indian states under the GST regime.

An e-Way Bill is a compliance document required under GST for the movement of goods valued above Rs 50,000 (inter-state or intra-state, depending on state-specific rules). It is generated on the e-Way Bill portal and must accompany the goods in transit. It contains details of the supplier, recipient, goods, vehicle number, and estimated distance.

In Zoho Books and Zoho Inventory, e-Way Bills can be generated directly from a sales order or invoice by entering vehicle details and clicking generate. The platform calls the e-Way Bill API, retrieves the EWB number, and attaches it to the transaction record. For businesses with high shipment volumes, this automation eliminates the manual portal workflow entirely.

E-Way Bills have validity periods based on distance. A consignment travelling 100 km needs an e-Way Bill valid for 1 day; 500 km requires 5 days. Managing validity and extensions for logistics-heavy businesses is a common operations pain point that Zoho Inventory and FSM address with alerts and automation.
