WorkDrive uses role-based permissions, offering levels such as Owner, Editor, Commenter, and Viewer. The permission level determines whether the user can read, annotate, modify, share, or delete the content in question.

Common Permission Levels in Zoho WorkDrive

The primary permission levels are: Owner — full control, can manage members and delete the folder; Editor — can create, upload, edit, and delete files; Commenter — can view files and add comments but cannot edit file content; Viewer — read-only access with no ability to comment or edit. These levels can be set at the Team Folder level and overridden on individual subfolders where needed.

Applying Permission Levels

Folder owners and admins assign permission levels when inviting members to a Team Folder or adjusting existing access. WorkDrive applies the permission level to all content inside the folder by default. If a more restrictive permission is needed for specific files or subfolders, a custom override can be applied without changing the broader folder access settings.

Can a user have different permission levels in different Team Folders?

Yes. Permission levels are folder-specific in Zoho WorkDrive. A user can be an Editor in one Team Folder and a Viewer in another, depending on their role in each project or department. This granular control ensures users only have the access they need in each context.

Does a higher permission level on a subfolder override a lower one set on the parent folder?

No. In Zoho WorkDrive, a subfolder can have a more restrictive permission than its parent (reducing access for certain users), but it cannot grant a higher permission than what the user already has on the parent folder. You can restrict access downward in the hierarchy but cannot escalate permissions below the parent level.

The access right assigned to a team member for a specific folder or file in Zoho WorkDrive, determining whether they can view, comment, edit, or manage content.

The access right assigned to a team member for a specific folder or file in Zoho WorkDrive, determining whether they can view, comment, edit, or manage con
[1261
post-5265","glossary","type-glossary","status-publish","hentry","glossary_category-zoho-workdrive
["GET
