When a column reaches its WIP limit, no new tasks can be moved in until an existing task moves forward. This forces the team to finish work before starting new items.<\/p>\n<h2>Why WIP Limits Matter<\/h2>\n<p>Without WIP limits, teams tend to start many tasks simultaneously, creating context-switching overhead and bottlenecks. A task stuck In Review blocks the flow and reveals that the review process needs attention. WIP limits make systemic bottlenecks visible so the team can address root causes.<\/p>\n<h2>Setting WIP Limits<\/h2>\n<p>Start with a generous WIP limit (say, team size + 2) and reduce it gradually as the team identifies and resolves bottlenecks.
